Portugal reserve goalkeeper Quim Silva was ruled out of the European Championship on Saturday after breaking his right wrist.
Quim hurt his wrist at Friday's practice session at Stade de Geneve, the federation said in a statement. The session was mostly closed to the media.
"It resulted in a fracture," team doctor Henrique Jones said. "Even though it is not a serious situation, he will have to be replaced."
The 32-year-old Quim, who plays for Benfica, has made 26 international appearances for Portugal.
Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has not announced his starting lineup, but Ricardo is favoured to start in goal for Portugal's opening Group A game against Turkey in Geneva later Saturday.
Portuguese media said FC Porto's reserve goalkeeper Nuno Espirito Santo was going to replace Quim, but the Portuguese federation said it had yet to make a decision.
Injured players can be substituted until the first match.
Quim was dropped from the squad after examinations at a local medical clinic showed he would not be able to recover in time to play in the 2008 Euro.
It wasn't clear how the injury occurred, but Jones said it happened just before the practice session ended.
