Our Scottish members might be interested in this. I go back nearly 20 years with Hilly and know he's a fine and dedicated coach, and still a very good keeper. Sessions for 4 pounds are hard to beat too. Check it out.

Place i used to go to was £10 for an hour and a bit.....Indifferent.plus I didnt really get much coaching

Dida still needs a team! lol

Why be negative when you can be Positive? Beats me!

Keepers are criticised and praised, its the keepers choice to decide what to listen to.

My hats off to you gentleman for trying to mate specialist coaching affordable for young goalkeepers Yes

Sadly in this country every level off football nowadays seems to be all about having and making money. As you've probably gathered before from some of my posts this is something that really gets to me as I was brought up with footy being an affordable recreational activity for the masses both from a playing and a spectating perspective. Not having any kids myself it was only in conversation with one of my friends the other week that I discovered the money being forked out by parents to enable their kids to go out and have a game of footy.....to say I (and another of my mates) was stunned is the biggest understatement ever [:'(]

Equipment wise one of the biggest culprits are Nike.

I found out off one of the parents thats they charge the same retail price for there top Contact foam gloves (His dad paid £55 for a size 7 Gunn cuts) in kids sizes (6+7).

This is especially bad as there is no VAT to pay on kids gloves as they come under kids clothing in which there is no VAT to pay.

And I hadn't even got started on the cost of equipment!!!! Super AngryAngry

I was thinking more how all this Direct Debit payment of subs and fees from the parents is going on.....I hadnt a clue this was the case nowadays Surprise. I'm not being funny but this wipes out a huge majority of working class and poor kids from playing. What happened to the days turning up with a quid/50 pence subs or whatever it was for a game of footy.....

 Sepp,

Most clubs charge a nomial fee for training.

the team i coach we charge £2 for 1.5 hours on a tuesday and then £2 for matchdays.

If you compare this to what i have to pay to play its cheap. training £4 twice a week, £4 on matchdays whether there is a game or not plus a sigining on fee of £20 min.

wow david you have to pay a lot! the level i'm playing at is supposed to be semi-pro but i haven't seen any money for a long time! still, the fact that i don't pay for training or matches, signing on fees, kit or coaching makes up for that.

I've been asking around blokes I know who have kids playing now and its ridiculous. They were paying a one off fee (suppose you could call it a signing on fee) and then each month a direct debit was taken out of the parents accounts. They were also paying for tracksuits training kit etc. Honest I aint making this up and it just wasn't 1 or 2 teams.

I also noticed a common trait....all these teams were from what could be considered fairly well off areas of the town - or should I really say NOT poor areas. None of what would be considered the poorer parts ie council estates even had teams....once an absolute breeding ground for footballers.

I think that £2 per training and per match is fair IMO.

I and none of my clubs coaches do it for the money, all funds from training and matches are recycled to cover costs of winter training, new balls, bibs, training equipment. Kit is provided by the club, including tracksuits and rain jackets.

However taking the adult game in to consideration, whilst the kit is provided i have to pay for my own gloves (which is getting expensive), i consider the costs to be fair also.

Hopefully if i can make a step up this year i can get on at a local semi pro team.

 John Hillcoat Goalkeeping Academy

Very interested to see John is using the Harmony Row facilities at Braehead.I approached one of their age groups in June,2007,and offered to set-up goalie sessions every week at the same venue.I heard nothing from the person concerned, but parents of three differert age groups at Row approached my through my Academy, came along to see what we do in terms of coaching goalies on a weekly basis, and that prompted me to re-establish contact again.By this time we are into October,2007,so I go along one Tuesday and take four age groups for FREE,plus a couple of our lads, and Kevin Bell(Rob Roy Juniors),who John knows, and we have a great session. In between,I get a call from one of their directors, who says he didnt know about the arrangement! Since then I have written to Sir Alex Ferguson at Man Utd - he does a lot for their club - because I was disappointed at their lack of response to my initiative, and he replied with a lovely letter. However, that upset Harmony Row,who objected to me "bothering" the great man - well it didnt bother him because he sent me his views on the subject - and that was the last I heard. You can imagine my surprise when I read John's Sunday Mail column and see he is using their facilities.Incidentally, the same parents who approached me before have been back on,and for the past 2 years their current under-17 goalie has been coming to us for coaching, and he is in the Regional Cup final next month.

John, you will remember me from some years ago when Billy Hassan Junior organised a Sunday MORNING session for Gleniffer Thistle goalies at the old Renfrew Vics Babcocks Ground and,if I remember rightly, you slept in and he had to get on the phone to waken you up,plus I watched you helping Campbell Money with a Sunday afternoon programme he took at the Kibble School,Paisley.

Ah,changed days indeed!
