Manufacturer: Adidas
Glove Name: Fingersave
Year First Made: 1996
Glove Cut: Flat
Description: First glove designed to protect against hyperextension of the fingers. Also one of the first gloves to use a bandage closure.
Reason for Nomination: As much as a lot of us despise finger protection gloves, I felt the original adidas fingersave deserves a nomination to the glove bag hall of fame. It revolutionized the glove market at a time when not much innovation had occured for 15 years. Not only did they create a technology that everyone has emulated, but the glove started a craze that captured a very large part of the entire glove market. We now have finger protection gloves at almost every price range. Whether you like the glove or not, you have to respect the lineage it has inspired.
Voted yes for the fact what the glove did to the market. An idea has to start somewhere and these days there are some excellent finger protection gloves around.
On the glove pictured above I loved the padded thumb!
Even though i dont wear FP gloves i voted yes as it had a big influence on todays market (Much like the Selsport Wrappa).
How many brands now offer a FP glove/s!!!!!

Despite really hating (with a passion) fingersaves I have worn over the last few years. These gloves are iconic. Does anyone remember Shaka Hislop wearing them when at Newcastle? With his big baggy shirt hanging out? I used to love that guy as a kid!
voted yes, as i remember when i was younger saving up my pocket money to go and buy a pair of the ones in the pic but in blue junior size
gave them away in the end. grew out of them to quickly havent used a pair of fp since
I voted yes even though it hurt to. This was the glove that started it all for FP so there no way it can't be in the HOF.
I also, reluctantly voted yes, because although they were a massive innovation, they were damn ugly and the palm was garbage; I always felt they could have done more with them.
I'm just glad people are getting an idea of what this Hall of Fame is all about......I feared people would just nominate their own personal favourites.....and yes I to voted yes although finger protection gloves are a big no no with me as well
I voted yes, even though I personally disliked this glove.
justin07: I voted yes, even though I personally disliked this glove.
Why?
I voted yes, I love Adidas FP.

I voted for them because the innovation of finger protection has proven to be a lasting and popular addition to goalkeeper glove technology. So, the first finger protection glove = Hall of Fame. The first webbed finger design (remember those?) = not in Hall of Fame, because that innovation proved to be just a passing trend.
Like Sepp, I see the Hall of Fame as comprised of gloves that had a significant impact on glove culture, history, technology, etc. Not merely our personal likes and dislikes.
Spot on Justin and Sepp...It is more about what the glove did to innovate, or change the market than our personal favorites. I think I am just as vocal about my dislike for FP than anyone else, but no one can deny this glove changed the market. And for what it is worth, I think the original model is better than the model on the shelf right now!
Hi all. Long time lurker. First time poster. I'm Dave, 23 and live in central scotland.
Gotta say I'm thrilled to see a nomination for these gloves. I had been wondering if/when it would happen! For my age, I suppose these are the most innovative glove of my generation. Also my preferred choice today. In fact they have been my favourite gloves since 1997. I know FP gloves have many critics, but from my point of view, these gloves truly did change my game. I was forever picking up finger injuries. And in over 11 years. I have bruised one finger since wearing Fingersaves. Which happened to be my thumb... Lol. So I cannae really blame the gloves...
At the time when I first got the FS gloves I was distraught. -They were the green ones like what Gould and Given wore at the time- I loved Sondico gloves because my two favourite keepers of the time wore Goram Premier SRG's. Andy Goram and Pavel Srnicek being favourite keepers at the time! So I had to get myself a pair, they were my 6th pair of Sondico's and I was gutted when I realised that if I wanted to beat bruising my fingers I'd have to opt for the Fingersaves! But I've never looked back!
Dave :)
I may be very wrong here, but... didn't reusch come out with the technology first; using it with its pros who had finger injuries and not marketing to the public until Adidas beat them to it (after taking the idea)? I'm sure there are much more knowledgable minds out there than mine with this, but I that's how I remember it.
Still voting yes. The glove is iconic even though I feel like finger protection leads to weak fingers thus more injuries (if you're flip flopping between fp's and non fp's).
The patent is actually owned by Hochmuth, who made gloves for adidas, not reusch during this time. It is however possible that reusch did develope the technology first, but why would they not patent that important of a technology if they had?
